Xizi Wang is a conductor and percussionist whose artistic voice is shaped by precision, openness, and a constant curiosity for new sonic possibilities. Moving effortlessly between contemporary music and the classical repertoire, she combines analytical clarity with a vivid and expressive approach to music-making.
She has led the ensemble of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, was a Conducting Fellow at the Lucerne Festival, and since 2024 has served as Principal Conductor of Studio Dan.
As a conductor, she has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, and the Bridges Kammerorchester Frankfurt, as well as ensembles including Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Reflektor, and KlangforumWien. Important artistic impulses have also come from her work as assistant conductor to Ingo Metzmacher, Ilan Volkov, Susanna Mälkki, and Enno Poppe.
As one of the few permanently appointed female principal timpanists in German cultural orchestras, she has performed with ensembles such as the ViennaPhilharmonic, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the GürzenichOrchestra Cologne, the FrankfurtRadioSymphony, and the DeutscheOper Berlin. As a soloist, she has captivated audiences with orchestras including the Philharmonic Orchestra Cottbus and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
